An excellent western! - Dances With Wolves Reviews

You may never see a better film about a dying civilization that's not going down without a fight. The evil of American fighting is done frightfully-well. SEE IT!

I need to get out more x_o - Dances With Wolves Reviews

well it took me long enough to review this movie. i love the epic feel of it but just not enough to be my fav. kevin costner plays a civil war soldier who just looses it and rides into enemy fire in hopes of being killed. of coarse he doesn't or there just wouldn't be a movie now would there. so he is sent to anther army base out it the west. he gets there and nobody around. there is just a shack and a pond that's it. he is there all alone with his horse and his journal. he writes in the journal all the time. always reflecting. he befriends a scraggly wolf and later on a whole tribe of indians. graham greene plays the chief kicking bird. he has a funky hairdo. kinda like pre flock of seagulls thing. not the point. they make several appearances and well he tries to communicate with them. tough to do. very comical to watch. especially when he tries to tell them about the buffalo. cracked me up. he ends up living with them for a time. he helps them against a raiding indian tribe and then later against the army that finally shows up. the one thing he must get back is the journal that he left at the camp. it tells of the indians and where they live. so he goes to get it and finds them to be is enemy. great movie. really long and the scenery is gorgeous. watch and enjoy if you haven't seen it.

Different but good - Dances With Wolves Reviews

I thought it fun to see a movie about Native Americans because you don't see such movies based around Indian lives. Kevin Costner was amazing in this movie and the other actors were amazing as well. The story brought humor and adventure and even a dash of romance to make this movie outstanding!

The americans have bad sides - Dances With Wolves Reviews

"Dances with Wolves" is a very dramatic, sad, trecherous, loving, funny, inspiring story about an american who learn about the indian culture and becomes friends. This movie is appx 3 hours long and certainly feels way longer than 3hours. There are many sad or disturbing parts and not a so happy ending, or you dont really find out what happens.

One of kevin costner's good films - Dances With Wolves Reviews

Kevin Costner has done some pretty horrible films in recent years, but only really two stand out as truly great films.....namely, Field of Dreams and Dances with Wolves. If you haven't seen either of these movies, please go see them because they are oscar-worthy. The American Film Institute has named Dances with Wolves in the Top 100 movies in the past 100 years. I do not want to explore or evaluate this movie to potential watchers for fear of ruining or spoiling the movie, but all I can say is that it is worth your time.

Real good tale. - Dances With Wolves Reviews

Well told and one of the more accurate relations. Had they have shown more wanton killing of native American women and children by the fearless cowboys and cavalry, it would have been far more realistic. "Stands with a fist" got up my nose a bit too. I mean, at least she could have got her kit off now and again. Read "Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee" by Dee Brown.

"nice movie" - Dances With Wolves Reviews

This movie is very cool. I have never seen a movie like this. When I saw it I bot this movie for $30.00. I would always take care of this movie.

Entertaining but, historically, a total disaster - Dances With Wolves Reviews

The movie was entertaining because of the scenery, the animals, and the fantasy world of indian life......but!!!!! In spite of the fact that Kevin Costner did a good job of learning to speak a very difficult language, that is where the reality stopped. 1.) Ten Bears was the chief of the Camanche tribe not the Souix....terrible mistake! 2.) The Souix were not the peace loving, fun loving, family nuturing, clean cut people this movie made them out to be. They were blood thirsty savages who beat their women, made war at the drop of a feather....with anyone who happened to be around, and were stoic at best. Make no mistake....the western american indians were treated very poorly because the whites repeatedly took advantage of them. But......it wasn't their land, they roved from place to place looking for people to kill. They were very stupid, they could not organize their own people long enough to create an organized fight against the whites......if the indians, who all supposedly valued the same simple pleasures of life, had banded together they could have defeated any number of whites. Maybe this movie was an attempt to "fix" all the injustices all by itself!

Awrsome - Dances With Wolves Reviews

Awesome movie. It was a really good depictio of Native American life and a beautiful story. Michael Blake has captured the hearts of many in this stunning film. It won tons of awards, and is just plain fantastic.

One of the best kevin costner films! - Dances With Wolves Reviews

I remember how I felt the first time I saw this film. My heart went out to the characters and I cried through the credits. I get the same feeling everytime I see it, and that always means it is a great movie. I love the story of a soldier left alone in the wilderness and becomes a part of a tribe, learning their culture and language. It is a viewpoint of the Native Americans that many movies do not show. To learn about a culture and feel the anguish of their impending loss of freedom and way of life just pulls at the heartstrings. It's very rare that a film does that so honestly. A truly great movie, I would recommend it to everyone!

Dances with wolves - the true review! - Dances With Wolves Reviews

Dances With Wolves is an amazing film, displaying the Sioux's and the Pawnee's true behaviour. Mixed with strong and blissful romance, the idea of peoples from different races meeting and becoming friends to heart is so lovely. Recommended for anyone with an interest in the Native American lifestyle!

Dancing with wolves - Dances With Wolves Reviews

Being a Native American I have never seen a movie that captures the true essence of what it means to be an Indian. I have never really embraced and applauded my heritage until I saw this masterpiece. I was compelled to learn more and be glad that I was born to see the world without any facades of what modern day living has given us.

A great film!! - Dances With Wolves Reviews

This is one of Kevin Costner's greatest films. It is a clever thoughtful story, well acted and with beautifully scenery! What makes this film so special is its portrayal of the colonisation of America and one mans quest to discover himself and the natives of America! I'm no expert on American history, but this goes beyond that and teaches us about tolerance and understanding! To respect other people and their cultures! A film of True Epic and Scope and self discovery! Kevin I Salute You! Well done!!

One of the best of all time! - Dances With Wolves Reviews

I'm suprised the user reviews only average a B. This movie is incredible. It is an amazing story of what happened to the Indians- makes you really think. Everything about this movie is great, Kevin - all of the actors, the scenery.. makes me want to go back in time.

Beautiful movie! touchnig and dramatic - Dances With Wolves Reviews

This has to be one of the best Dramaic movies ever. A four star movie and a Best Picture Win! Moving and touching difinetly a DVD buy. It's about a man going into the plains and becoming freinds with some indians . But what matters is the differances in apperance but the similarity in personality and the ways of the Indians. Soon after they become freinds and even deeper , they accept them as their own no matter his apperance, as white man. This movie is about soul and beauty of nature and lfe.

While good, the ending isn't what i expected - Dances With Wolves Reviews

I was just getting ready to give Dances With Wolves an A. But right before I could enjoy it fully, a lot of animals started to die. The worst part was that you had to see the suffering. But while the movie gets a little sad, you shouldn't give it a bad grade. The beauty of the Sioux landscape is the first part, and I wonder how Kevin Costner was able to direct it very well. I really like how Costner's character was able to interact with the Native Americans. The movie reminds me very much of The Last Samurai because he makes friendship with the enemy(actually, they really only hated him) and he falls in love with one of their women. So, according to me, the movie would be perfect if it weren't for the sad violence. But I understand why it was the Best Picture of 1990.

This movie was worth the price - Dances With Wolves Reviews

story was nearly of epic proportions cinematography was excellent acting was worthy of an oscar music was worthy of listening to in a theatre tribute to kevin kostner

One of the great films - Dances With Wolves Reviews

KEVIN COSTNER 19 MONTHS APART,FIRST IN "FIELD OF DREAMS"SPRING OF 1989 AND THEN AGAIN WITH "DANCES WITH WOLVES" PULLS OFF A UNIQUE CINEMA ACHEIVEMENT TWO MOVIES QUITE DIFFERENT IN ALMOST EVERY RESPECT,AND MORE TO THE POINT TWO OF THE FIVE GREAT FILMS OF ALL TIME.IN DANCES ALONG WITH COSTNERS BRILLIANT PORTRAYL OF LT.JOHN DUNBAR AND HIS FIRST RATE JOB OF DIRECTING WHAT MANY HOLLYWOOD INSIDERS LAUGHINGLY WERE CALLING EVERYTHING FROM HEAVENS GATE II DUE TO REPORTED COST OVERUNS TO ON THE OTHERHAND "DANCES WITH SUBTITLES" A REFERENCE TO USE OF THE LAKOTA SOUIX LANGUAGE WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES ON THE SCREEN IN A 3HR PLUS MOVIE...NEVER WORK.WELL ALONG WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM JOHN BARRY WHO PUT TOGTHER A WONDERIOUS FILM SCORE TO MATCH THE BREATHTAKING CINNEMAPHOTOGRAPHY,A SWEEPING STORY THAT BEGINS ON A CIVAL WAR BATTLEFRONT IN TENNESSE AND HEADS WEST.A OUTSTANDING TURN BY MUCH RESPECTED BUT RELATIVELY UNKNOWN THEATREICAL ACTRESS MARY MCDONNELL,ALONG WITH STRONG ACTING INCLUDING GRAHAME GREENE AND ROGNEY GRANT ROUND OUT A FILM WITH NO WEAKNESS.THIS FILM WHEN IT OPENED THANKSGIVING OF 1990 WAS PLAYING TO PACKED THEATERS AND UNDERSTANDABLY SO.

4 stars - Dances With Wolves Reviews

What an incredible film. At almost four hours, the film never gets boring, and I hoped it would never end. So many films portray the indians as being incapable people, Costner shows that they are not only capable, but at times, superior. Costner moved with the Indians because he found their way of life much more suited to the land and also that they live in a healthy way. The musical score fits exactly with the emotion of the film. Incredible story, incredible filmmaking.

Quite possiblly the greatest movie of all time - Dances With Wolves Reviews

My favorite ever. Great acting, great script. The direction and cinimatography is the best I have ever seen. Nothing beats it.

Your heart dances too! - Dances With Wolves Reviews

I had heard about Dances With Wolves awhile back, when I saw it at Best Buy. It looked like a decent movie, but I wasn't interested in seeing it. Months later, I was at Costco with my mom and her friend. My mom saw Dances With Wolves, ans said she'd buy it since it was cheap. I really didn't care, because I wanted to watch something new. So, I popped the sucker in and relaxed. I was a little hesitent, so I watched the trailer for it to see what it was about. The instant the trailer was finished, I pressed "play movie". This was my kind of movie! I watched half of it, then watched the rest in the morning. I was amazed. Not only does your spirit dance, your heart dances too! Dances With Wolves is about a solider named Lieutenant Dunbar. Thanks to his failed suicide run, his side won the battle. He is proclaimed a hero and told that he would be accepted at any fort. Instead, Dunbar requests to go to the frontier and make a fort there. His presence attracts the attention of a tribe of Sioux indians. He is soon accepted into their tribe. Dunbar learns there language, lives with them, and marries one of them. The story is a living masterpiece. It combines a bunch of Civil War movies and indian movies, and completely gives it a makeover. The result is a heart-pounding thrill ride about a man, and how his decisions shape his destiney. I like Kevin Costner (The Guardian, Waterworls, J.F.K.). He is a brilliant actor, and carries on that legacy as Dunbar. His actions and facial expressions are really expressive. We can see the emotions that are running throughout his body if we look in his eyes. Mary McDonnell plays Stands With a Fist. Her role is very hard to play, because she has to love and mourn at the same time. McDonnell pulls off the role and adds extra spices to it. Even the supporting actors make the best of their roles, even if they are small ones. Not only is Kevin Costner a brilliant actor, he is also a brilliant director. The script is top notch, with some of the most simplest and most powerful lines ever introduced on film. One of my favorite parts in the movie, is at the very end when an indian stands at the top of a cliff and shouts "can you not see that Dances With Wolves is my friend, and I am his". That is a line that made me stare at the screen in awe. The score is amazing! The music is incredible as it is short. It doesn't matter, because the score will possibly won't be noticed because of the beautiful scenery. The visuals are absolutely mind-blowing. The art direction and cinematogrophy are no doubt the best. The enviroments seem real, and the indian camps look like they were pulled out of a great John Wayne movie. The dead animals are amazing and disturbing to look at. The fatal wounds on the dead bodies look awesome. Dances With Wolves is for ages 15 and up. There many bloody battles and deaths. Characters are killed, including animals. A character commits suicide (off-screen). White people are cruel to the animals and usually shoot at them, kill them, and sometimes butcher them. There is some brief swearing, and some crude humor. There is some nudity and sexual (sometimes explicit) situations. The indians smoke a lot, and characters drink. Overall, Dances With Wolves is a fascinating and powerful motion picture event. The story is powerful as it is disturbing, Kevin Costner gives the performance of his career, Kevin Costner proves he is an amazing director, and the visuals are truly worthy of recognition. Dance to Best Buy and get this movie, because I give Dances With Wolves an A+. -criticat13

Now, why don't he write? - Dances With Wolves Reviews

Ninety percent of the work that Kevin Costner has done is not worth a darn. However, this movie solidified him as a true star. This is an Epic and is one of the finest movies of it's time.

Boring - Dances With Wolves Reviews

it goes on and on and ON... about theses indians who arent indians... way too long and repetative... the two lovers and continually separated and reunited...
