Best movie ever - Dances With Wolves Reviews

I am watching this movie tonight for probably the 300th time since it first came out. It is still the best movie I ever saw 15 years later. I wish more movies like this could be made.

Not just any movie - Dances With Wolves Reviews

This movie, was one of the best movies I have ever seen..and it taught me alot too. I am part Navajo, and seeing this taught me alot about Native American culture and the West.

A must see movie - Dances With Wolves Reviews

I saw this one a while back but I remember myself loving it. IF you see it, like right now, you'll know what I mean. Kevin Costner was outstanding.

Great film about self discovery - Dances With Wolves Reviews

It's hard to tell a story about a man finding his soul and Dances with Wolves told it forcefully and beautifully. Unfortunately, This film has mediocre user reviews because many people feel unconfortable about the lack of value and soul of thier own ancessors. In fact, I suspect that most of them have commited similar cruelty and racism to hate this film for revealing the emptiness inside them. The movie doesn't feel long, even the extended 4 hours version which I recommend. The only thing I didn't care for is the love scene but I never liked any love scenes. The soundtrack is delicious. Costner isn't my favorite but a man only needs one such great film to his career. To me, this movies is about soul searching, love, dedication in a man's journey to find himself. This is a proces that many of us try to go through. I hope everyone who seeks will find the Sioux of thier own.

Dances with wolves - Dances With Wolves Reviews

This movie was beatifully written and acted in some gorgeous countryside. This was one of the few subtitiled movies thtat far surpassed the movies of its time. I recommend this movie to anyone interested in the last days of the frontier, with superb storyline and deeply moving characters.

Not bad, not bad at all - Dances With Wolves Reviews

Unbelievable!! - Dances With Wolves Reviews

I had to stay in the theatre 5 minutes after the credits stopped rolling to dry my eyes. My wife couldn't believe it. Every aspect of this movie was exceptionally well done. The only part I really had a problem with was Costner's narration. Minor. EASILY my most favorite move of all time, and it's 14 years after it debuted. I could rant on and on. If you've never seen it get it. You won't be disappointed.

One of the greatest american films - Dances With Wolves Reviews

It's hard to believe that it took so many years before a major film came out that portrayed something through the point of view of American Indians. The entire production, art direction, music, cinemetography, etc, were first rate.; even down to the detail of the use of Sioux language. I watched this for the first time with a Swiss girlfriend while living there and this seemed to be a large redemption for all the typical American formula garbage that comes out of Hollywood.

For reality look somewhere else - Dances With Wolves Reviews

Like one of the reviewers previously alluded ? if you think this picture was anything like reality then you need to get a life. This was a plot that in no way represented either Whitemans? civilization or any American Indian tribe?s culture. This was an idyllic Victorian love romance plastered on some make believe unsuspecting Indian tribe. The story starts out with Kevin Costner as an Army officer coming out of the Civil War as a hero. This gives an indication that he is a stable well balanced solid individual who is anxious to see the big West. In a silly plot the Army places this officer alone out in the middle of nowhere with no support. He becomes mentally deranged and settles for the small world of an Indian tribe. This is a typical Hollywood character that starts out as one person and morphs to something else. But the writer brilliantly eases you into the situation. He gets you to empathize with Costner and draws you into the plot. He gets you to feel anger towards the stereotyped Whiteman. You know all those things you are not supposed to do to be politically correct. Well you are soon hating all the no good high ranking double crossing Army Calvary officers. All the Americans in the west were bad to the Indians. The whole country was bad to the Indians. The whole American culture from Columbus on was bad to the Indians. Oh, all except Custer for he was a hero ? not. Actually Custer was an opportunistic insubordinate braggart of the type depicted in this story. How did he ever become an American hero? The script was well written, the acting was superb, the directing was excellent, the movie was long but it was dumb. If you think this was reality go out and get a life, read some history, meet people, understand how civilization really works and by all means turn off the TV and especially The Donald show.

I really liked the first half - Dances With Wolves Reviews

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS The second half is good also, but I enjoyed the first half more. My favorite parts of the movie were when Costner was trying to get the wolf to eat out of his hand. I loved those parts. !!SUPER SPOILER COMING UP!! As you read, my favorite parts were with the wolf. So I was burning inside when those Americans shot the wolf. I was so angry was grunting and gritting my teeth. It is however, an excellent movie.

This just might be the best movie of all time - Dances With Wolves Reviews

I loved this movie from start to finish. I think it might be the best movie I've ever seen. The acting was outstanding. The story was outstanding as well. There were some historical discrepencies with weapons and such, but they are minimal.

Classic - Dances With Wolves Reviews

Dances With Wolves not only won over critics and audiences worldwide but single handidly revived the western genre. Kevin Costner's epic tale has aged magnificently and deservedly won its 7 Oscars in 1990. A+ This is what great films are made of. :)

You will dance with the wolves too. - Dances With Wolves Reviews

This movie viewed the Lakota people as they were in life and in death. It reveals the indian people as they were never seen before as, actual people and not just the wild savages they were in early western movies. The view point of the movie is from the indian point of view and so,we finally see how they viewed matters concerning there people.Their lifestyle, politics, and the way they fought makes the movie come to life. You will feel like you are right beside dances with wolves and his new friends the Lakota as you watch the movie.

Awesome indians - Dances With Wolves Reviews

Rodney A. Grant is very handsome. Kevin Costner is great and the scenery is the best. Best picture for this movie!

No redeeming value found. - Dances With Wolves Reviews

Here si a guy who is trying to commit suicide who goes west and meets an Army officer who pees his pants and does commit suicide. Our hero then goes to a remote post where he becomes a deserter and is captured by the bad bad white guys who torture him. Please tell me where the redeeming value is for a white kid seeing this movie. Your choices are to either side with the bad bad, pants peeing, suicide committing white guys or you can make a hero of an attempted suicide post deserting piece of crap the Dunbar turned out to be. This movie ranks with Thelma and Louise as being thoughtless, useless piece of film ever created. Amen!

A rare movie full of love, thrills and adventure - Dances With Wolves Reviews

A rare movie that it seems they dont make any more. The acting's great and the direction is superb. You will love everything about this movie becouse the story is so emotional and real.

Overrated for me - Dances With Wolves Reviews

I watched this movie expecting an outstanding piece, given all of the awards and praise, but I was rather disappointed. I found myself almost uncomfortable at what I was watching more than once, and thought that altogether the whole thing was rather a drag. This was one of those movies where the director seemed too concerned with making us aware of how awful white Americans were to Native Americans. The characters that were not part of the tribe were made to seem harsh and corrupt, just carbon copies of a stereotype that whites were unmerciful to every native they met. The scenery however, was beautiful and the acting solid, though there were a few weak spots. I didn't enjoy the actual story line of the movie either, though it was a respectable script, just not what I was expecting from such a heralded film.

The best movie ever - Dances With Wolves Reviews

At first, i thought that this movie was going to be boring but it was interesting. it was a very good movie and kevin costner was great and handsome. everyone should watch this movie. It was the best!!

Grand scale western epic - Dances With Wolves Reviews

One of the greats! Kevin Kostner, Mary McDonnell and Graham Greene should all have gotten Oscars for this film. Very moving, seemingly realistic (I didn't live then) portrayals of the old west. It takes you away to a world that no longer exists. It is an epic western like "Little Big Man", but a lot more believable. It's realism comes close to "McCabe and Mrs. Miller". It's up there with my other favorite epic westerns like "Jeremia Johnson", "The Outlaw Jose Wales", "Quigley Down Under", "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" and a few others. I feel sorry for anyone who can't lose themselves inside this movie.

Boring zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz - Dances With Wolves Reviews

If you want to see a movie that is sympathetic to the American Indians and is entertaining at the same time, then go see "Little Big Man". Don't see "Dances With Wolves" unless you want to fall asleep. The only reason this picture won an Oscar was because the Hollywood voters felt guilty about all the Western movies that showed the Native Americans as evil savages. That is no reason to give a film this bad an Oscar. I think that Kevin Costner was smoking too much dope during the filming of this yawner.

Amazing drama - Dances With Wolves Reviews

I saw this movie when I was really young and only cared about visuals even then I still loved this movie. It has a great plot and acting and is very memorable.

An overrated actor - Dances With Wolves Reviews

Kevin Costner is the most overrated actor of the past 30 years, and this is his most overrated movie. The Native-American actors performed well, but the slow-spoken Costner lacks charisma. The opening part of the story made no sense. The part where the Englishman urinated in his pants was just the movie's director expressing his racist feelings toward English people. The rest of the story was cliche, boring and predictable. The visuals were not bad but could have been much better (it needed a Terrence Malick naturalist's touch).

One of the best movies ever - Dances With Wolves Reviews

Kevin Costner may be th emost underaited actor out there wright now, although there is Brad Pitt, anyway, Kevin Costner was once a big star, he was getting rolls in movies like A Perfect World, and Field of Dreams, and he won Oscars for Dances with Wolves, which is still his best. Dances with Wolves is one of the best and most powerful films ever, its great in every aspect.

The film to remember costner by - Dances With Wolves Reviews

It is a rare thing to have a movie running the length of 236 minutes without you realizing it?s been that long. Dances with Wolves, Kevin Costner?s directorial debut, is the only four-hour movie I?ve sat through in one sitting. The photography, the acting, the script, all of it is beguiling and engages you. The movie opens with a bang in the middle of the Civil War. Kevin Costner is Lt. John Dunbar, who was injured in the battlefield and is about to have his leg sawn off by a doctor (to prevent gangrene). Refusing to accept this, he rides into the field of battle to commit suicide and ends up becoming a hero. He is given a choice as to where he wants to go next and chooses an outpost on the frontier. Upon arrival, he ascertains that traitors have abandoned the fort; so Dunbar decides to clean up the place and await further orders. Meanwhile, the Sioux Indian tribe learns about him and decides that maybe they can make commerce. They are successful, and soon Dunbar learns to esteem those he once feared and analyzes their ways. He eventually falls in love with Stands With A Fist (Mary McDonnell), and learns the Lakota language. Of course he must make contact with the army again in the thrilling conclusion to the movie. Costner knew from the moment he read Michael Blake?s novel he had something. The movie is rich with locales, (primarily South Dakota), action, and dialogue. It spends quite awhile with Dunbar by himself in the fort, scenes that could easily be boring. However, Dunbar keeps a journal, which allows him to be constantly narrating in a way that works. They are his thoughts that others will read, not just thoughts we here. The movie also contains many thrilling scenes, most particularly the hunt of the buffalo. The sequence features everything, including 3,500 real buffalo, 50 extras, 7 cameras, and 25 fake buffalo. The scene is intense and, at the same time, really sad because it looks so real. It looks like Costner went out with his crew and released 3,500 buffalo, then rode by them and killed them (that is not what happened, however). The dialogue is captivating instead of dull. There is a scene in which Dunbar communicates with Kicking Bird (Graham Greene) through Stands With A Fist, an American who grew up with the Sioux. Her English is rusty, yet the things Costner and Kicking Bird say to each other are wonderfully entertaining. The movie is not without it flaws, sadly. The story surrounding Stands With A Fist was not satisfactory, as it only showed Natives massacring her parents and friends when she was a child. She ran away, and somehow befriended the Sioux tribe. Yet, wouldn?t this experience make her fear and hate the Natives? I know most other characters would vow revenge, yet this one seems to hate the American people (the Sioux have a pretty easy life). I also question how the film received it?s PG-13 rating. It seems the rating system has intensified in the last 15 years. This movie features extremely realistic blood, plus a gory scene in which buffalo are seen skinned and dead on the prairie. The movie features all the elements that would have gotten it an R, had it been released now. But, all that aside, Dances with Wolves is an epic Western, and the film that Kevin Costner will be remembered for the rest of his life. He will probably never make a movie as good as this, and there is no need to try. Everyone should see this (except small children).

An incredible film!!! - Dances With Wolves Reviews

Dances with Wolves is a visually stunning film that made to perfection by Kevin Costner. The film's 3 hours plus of running time is of no concern because everything in this movie moves so fluidly and fast that you get lost in the moving story. One of Costner's best films and one of the greatest of all time.

Dancing with success. - Dances With Wolves Reviews

Dances With Wolves is a movie made in the classic Epic style. Stunning visuals that capture the beauty and power of a people native to the expansive west. This movie tells of the tale of a Union officer in the Civil War. During a failed suicide attempt that gives his men a edge over the enemy, he is hailed as a hero and offered the choice of any military outpost in the country. John choices a remort post on the western fringe of what passes as civilization. Upon his arrival, he finds that his post is deserted. not having any clues at first to what has happened, he set out to repair the outpost and as a result, draws the attention of a nearby tribe of native Americans. What follows is his attempt to interact with members of the nearby tribe and stumble over the cultural differences that each have. As time goes on, John Dunbar learns that not all of the native tribesmen are as the people back home portray. And the native Americans learn that not all of the white and pale skinned people are to be shunned and feared. =My Review= This movie by Kevin Costner is in my opinon one of the best he has made. One of the main reasons for this is the fact that Mr. Costner uses the talents of authentic Native Americans as actors and extras. Secondly, the location shots and the SFX for this film were all first rate. At over three hours long, it might be assumed that this movie would drag - However I was pleased that it kept my interest easily and was very entertaining. =Other Movies You might Enjoy= If you liked this movie, you might also like these other films by or starring Kevin Costner: THE POSTMAN BODYGUARD TIN CUP

A captivating movie - Dances With Wolves Reviews

Anyone wanting to explore the old west before it was too late can watch this movie and are immediately taken back to a more simple time. A time when things ran wild on the plains and when people were more cautious about strangers. But really this movie is about a friendship between a white soldier and the Sioux nation that accepted him as one of their own. That relationship has never been recreated on film since this movie showed back in 1990. Friends, family, love. Its all here. This movie is truly one to watch with family or someone close to you. It will bring you closer with that person than you have ever felt before. I can also say that anyone with emotions will cry at the end of this movie. I did.

Well worth your time - Dances With Wolves Reviews

"Dances with Wolves" is by no means a short movie. You might get bogged down with it, but if you can just keep watching, you will discover just how beautiful the film is. "Dances with Wolves" is about a Union officer who befriends the Lakota and adopts their culture. It portrays the Lakota people in a very non-biased way. Usually, you only see Native Americans in Westerns as being savages and whooping idiots. Now, you see them as being a group of dignified humans. The film is very touching and very powerful. I recommend it to anyone who likes dramas.

Dances with wolves & goodfellas the best of 1990. - Dances With Wolves Reviews

Kevin Costner became the first actor to direct himself in a movie that went on to win the Best Picture & Best Director Academy Awards. Five years later that accolade will be achieved by Mel Gibson for Braveheart. In 1948 Sir Laurence Olivier directed Hamlet, which won the Best Picture, but not the Best Director award, he although went on to win the Best Actor Academy Award. The west had never been so beautifully filmed as in Dances With Wolves. One of the greatest pieces of cinematography, the running of the buffalos, meticulously orchestratded to be one of the greatest scene in Motion Picture history.
